Biography

Dorothy Bohntinsky, M.A. CCC-SLP, D.Min., has been a speech-language pathologist in healthcare since 1977. She was Director of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Alameda County Medical Center from 1980 to 2002. She has been the primary per diem SLP at an LTAC specializing in respiratory failure since 2002.

Dr. Bohntinsky’s dedication to helping individual’s thrive within life’s challenges enabled her to link scientific evidence from different fields to show a direct relationship between the omohyoid muscle, nonverbal language behaviors, and vagus nerve activation. This process is called nonverbal language integration (NvLI). Dr.Bohntinsky teaches NvLI to patients, caregivers, clinicians, and the general public. She is the author of Nonverbal Language Integration for Exercising Vagus Nerve Pathways: Introducing the Theory and Practice of Enhancing Rapport through Pragmatics (2019).
